Pantocosme

Paper scale printed from an engraved copper plate, mounted on a mahogany board, and varnished; brass alidade, index, and fittings Diameter 9 5/8 in. (244mm) Not signed (devised by Noel Morgrand and engraved by Francois Galand) Times Museum Inventory 556

More Information: The Time Museum Time Measuring Instruments, Astrolabes, Astrolabes Related Instruments by A.J. Turner, page 232 - 237.

The instrument is far from complete, and wrongly assembled (the rete for example, requires to be cut à jour to reveal a plate below). The lettering on the brass rules attempts to copy that in larger rule (Index Solaire). Neverteless, the rete, taken from a copy of Morgrad's rare book, is an interesting example of the engraving of ... Francois Galandus faiseur des Instruments des mathematiques pre S Hilaire...and the whole recalls the work of Parisian, whose publications, all astrological, span the years 1600 to 1619.
